TikTok API Pricing in 2026: What Is Free, What Costs Money, and the Alternatives
Every official TikTok API is free in dollars and gated by eligibility and review instead. As of September 2026 the Research API is limited to non-commercial researchers at approved institutions, the Display API returns only the authorizing user's own profile and videos, the Content Posting API keeps posts private until your app passes an audit, and the Commercial Content API covers EU ads and commercial content only. What actually costs money is the third-party tier: pay-as-you-go TikTok data APIs at roughly $0.60 to $1.88 per 1,000 requests, scraping platforms at $1.30 to $1.70 per 1,000 records, and daily-quota subscriptions from $100 to $1,400 a month.
This guide separates the three costs a buyer runs into: what TikTok's free APIs can and cannot return, what the paid third-party TikTok APIs charge, and what a realistic monthly workload costs on each route. We build xpoz, one of the third-party options, and it appears in the tables on the same terms as everyone else. Every price and quota below was checked against the provider's own site on September 16, 2026.
Is the TikTok API Free?
Yes. TikTok's developer documentation publishes no fee for any of its four APIs, and there is no paid tier that buys more volume. The Research API, the Display API, the Content Posting API and the Commercial Content API all hand out access after an application or an app review, not a payment. That makes TikTok cheaper on paper than X, whose API moved to pay-per-use in 2026, and closer to Meta's Instagram Platform, which is also free and also narrow.
The price is paid in access rules. Each official API is scoped to one job and one audience: research on a public-interest basis, displaying a user's own content inside your app, posting on a user's behalf, or auditing EU advertising. None of them is a search engine for public TikTok, and that gap, keyword and hashtag search across accounts you do not control, is what the paid alternatives sell.
What Do the Official TikTok APIs Return?
| API | Who can use it | What it returns | Fee | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Research API | Academic institutions in the US, EEA, UK, Canada, Switzerland; not-for-profit research bodies in the EU; Brazilian institutions studying youth safety; DSA vetted researchers. No commercial use | Public video and comment data, user profiles, follower and following lists, liked, pinned and reposted videos, EU TikTok Shops | None published | 1,000 requests and up to 100,000 records a day, 100 records per request; follower and following lists up to 2 million records a day over 20,000 calls |
| Display API | Any approved app, with the user's consent | The authorizing user's profile and their own videos (scopes user.info.basic, video.list) | None published | 600 requests a minute per endpoint on user info, video query and video list, on a one-minute sliding window |
| Content Posting API | Any approved app with the video.publish scope | Direct posting and uploads to the user's account | None published | 6 requests a minute per user access token; posts from unaudited clients restricted to private viewing |
| Commercial Content API | The public and researchers, after an application (answered within 2 working days) | Paid ads (dates, targeting, reach), advertiser data and other commercial content, EU countries only | None published | Ad data available while the ad runs and for one year after it was last shown |
The Research API is the only official route to public data at scale, and its quotas are generous for its audience: 100,000 records a day covers most academic projects. Its wall is eligibility. TikTok's FAQ answers "I am a creator, advertiser, or commercial user, am I eligible?" with a plain no, and the access page requires researchers to be "independent of commercial interests" on a "not-for-profit or non-commercial basis." The eligibility page was last updated on September 1, 2026, and it also lists researchers vetted by an EU Digital Services Coordinator under the Digital Services Act as a separate category.
The Display API is the one most developers meet first, and it is not a data API. It returns a user's profile and recent videos after that user authorizes your app with the user.info.basic and video.list scopes, which makes it right for "show my TikToks on my portfolio site" and wrong for "find every video about my brand." Its 600-requests-a-minute limit per endpoint is comfortable for that job; TikTok returns HTTP 429 with the error code rate_limit_exceeded when it is crossed, and higher limits are granted by support request.
How Much Does the TikTok Research API Cost?
Nothing, for the people who can get it. There is no application fee and no per-record charge; the cost is the proposal and the review. Approved projects receive client credentials, query videos and comments at 100 records per request against a daily budget of 1,000 requests, and can pull follower and following lists on a separate allowance of up to 2 million records a day. Quotas reset at midnight UTC. A virtual compute environment for sensitive data exists in a test stage at 5,000 records a day.
For a company, the practical cost of the Research API is that it is unavailable. Commercial platforms that want TikTok search or comment data license it from a third party or use an indexed platform, and the rest of this guide prices those routes. Our separate guide on how to get TikTok data without the Research API covers the access mechanics; this one covers the money.

How Much Do Third-Party TikTok APIs Cost?
Third-party TikTok APIs fetch or index public data and charge per request, per record, per credit or per month. The market splits into pay-as-you-go request APIs, credit packs that never expire, daily-quota subscriptions, scraping infrastructure sold per record, and multi-platform data platforms. Published prices on September 16, 2026:
| Provider | Model | Entry price | Free tier | TikTok scope |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lamatok | Pay per request, no subscription | $1 per 1,000 requests; $0.60 per 1,000 at volume | 100 requests | Profiles, posts, comments and likers, followers, hashtags, music |
| TikHub | Pay per request, volume discounts | $0.001 per request (a single-video fetch), falling to $0.0005 at 30,000 or more requests; some endpoints up to $0.01 | About 50 requests | TikTok app and web endpoints; 16 platforms |
| ScrapeCreators | Credit packs, 1 credit per request | $47 for 25,000 credits ($1.88 per 1,000); $497 for 500,000 ($0.99 per 1,000) | 100 credits | TikTok plus 37 other APIs; credits never expire |
| SociaVault | Credit packs, most endpoints 1 credit | $29 for 6,000 credits ($4.80 per 1,000); $79 for 20,000; $199 for 75,000; $399 for 200,000 ($2 per 1,000) | 50 credits | TikTok, TikTok Shop and 25 other platforms |
| SocialCrawl | Credit packs, 1 credit per standard call | £15 for 2,500 credits; £49 for 20,000 (about £2.45 per 1,000); £299 for 150,000 | 100 credits | TikTok profile lookups at 1 credit; universal search 20 credits; 65 platforms |
| EnsembleData | Monthly daily-unit plans | $100 a month for 1,500 units a day (Wood) up to $1,400 for 50,000 (Platinum) | 50 units a day | Keyword search, hashtag search, user posts and comments at 1 unit each; post info and follower lists 2 units; detailed user info 10 |
| Bright Data TikTok Scraper API | Pay per record | $1.50 per 1,000 records; Scale $499 a month for 384,000 records then $1.30 per 1,000 | 5,000 records a month | Profiles, posts, comments |
| Apify TikTok Scraper | Pay per event on platform plans | From $1.70 per 1,000 results, lower on paid plans (Starter $19, Scale $199, Business $999 a month) | $5 platform credit a month | Videos, profiles, hashtags, music, optional comments and downloads |
| xpoz | Monthly plans, results-based | Free; Pro $20 a month; Max $200 a month | Up to 75,000 results, one time | TikTok, Twitter/X, Instagram, Reddit; keyword, hashtag, sound and user search, comments, profiles |
The cheapest unit prices belong to the request APIs (TikHub, Lamatok), which suit teams that know which videos, users or hashtags they want and can afford to make one call per page. Credit packs (ScrapeCreators, SociaVault, SocialCrawl) cost more per call but never expire, which fits irregular projects. EnsembleData prices a daily quota, so its $100 floor buys 45,000 units a month whether you use them or not, and its search endpoints return 20 posts per unit. Bright Data and Apify bill per record or result and belong to teams that already run a scraping stack across many sites.
One caution on comparing rates: a "request" is not a "post." EnsembleData's keyword search returns 20 posts per unit, Bright Data charges per record returned, and xpoz prices by results. Convert to the unit you actually consume before ranking providers, which is what the next section does.
What Does a Real TikTok Workload Cost?
Take a common job: collecting 10,000 public TikTok videos about a topic in a month, with the authors, from keyword and hashtag searches. The official APIs cannot do it for a company: the Research API would cover it in 100 requests a day if the applicant were an eligible academic, and the Display API has no search at all. On the paid routes the same job prices out like this:
| Route | Monthly cost for 10,000 videos | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok Research API | $0 | Eligible researchers only; 100 records per request, 1,000 requests a day |
| Bright Data | $7.50 | First 5,000 records free, next 5,000 at $1.50 per 1,000 |
| TikHub | $5 to $10 | $0.001 per request, $0.0005 once volume passes 30,000 requests |
| Lamatok | $10 or less | $1 per 1,000 requests; one request returns a page of results |
| Apify TikTok Scraper | $17 | $1.70 per 1,000 results on the Free plan rate; the $5 free credit does not cover it |
| ScrapeCreators | $18.80 of a $47 pack | 10,000 credits; the remaining 15,000 never expire |
| SocialCrawl | About £24.50 of a £49 pack | 10,000 standard credits from the 20,000-credit Growth pack |
| SociaVault | $40 of a $79 pack | 10,000 credits from the 20,000-credit Growth pack |
| EnsembleData | $100 | Wood plan minimum; 500 units for 10,000 posts at 20 posts per keyword search unit |
| xpoz | $0 | Free tier covers up to 75,000 results one time; Pro $20 a month for up to 1,000,000 results a month |
Three things change the arithmetic. If the job needs comments as well as videos, request APIs charge again per comment page (EnsembleData returns 30 comments per unit, Lamatok and TikHub one request per page), while results-priced platforms count each comment as a result. If the job repeats every month, the one-time free tiers stop helping after the first run, so the monthly rows are the ones to compare. And if an AI agent is running the queries, the platforms that expose an MCP server (xpoz, SocialCrawl, SociaVault) save the glue code that a raw request API needs.
Where Does xpoz Fit?
xpoz is a social data platform rather than a TikTok scraper: it indexes billions of posts across TikTok, Twitter/X, Instagram and Reddit, and returns them through an MCP server for AI agents, a REST API, TypeScript and Python SDKs, and a CLI. For TikTok it searches videos by keyword, hashtag, sound and user, returns the comments on a video, and returns user profiles, so a topic search starts from the topic rather than from a list of accounts.
Pricing is by results rather than by request. The Free tier is a one-time allowance covering up to 75,000 results with no credit card. Pro is $20 a month for up to 1,000,000 results a month and Max is $200 a month for up to 18,000,000. TikTok queries cost more per query than Reddit or Twitter/X queries, so a TikTok-only workload reaches those ceilings sooner than a mixed one. Full details are on the xpoz pricing page.
Which TikTok API Route Should You Choose?
Use the free official APIs when your job is inside their scope: an eligible academic study (Research API), showing a consenting user's own videos (Display API), posting on a user's behalf (Content Posting API), or auditing EU advertising (Commercial Content API). For those jobs the price of zero is unbeatable and no third party matches the Research API's access to follower lists.
Use a pay-per-request API such as TikHub or Lamatok when you have a list of videos, users or hashtags and want the lowest unit cost. Use a credit pack (ScrapeCreators, SociaVault, SocialCrawl) when usage is bursty and you would rather not watch a monthly quota. Use Bright Data or Apify when TikTok is one of many targets in an existing scraping stack. Use an indexed platform such as xpoz when the job starts from a keyword or topic rather than a known account, when comments and profiles are part of the same query, or when an AI agent will be running it. Our comparison of the best TikTok API alternatives ranks the providers by those jobs.
The short answer holds across platforms: the official API is free and narrow, the paid APIs cost a few dollars per 1,000 calls and widen the aperture, and the right one depends on whether you start from an account or from a topic. The same pattern runs through our Instagram API pricing, Twitter API pricing and Reddit API pricing guides.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the TikTok API free?
Yes, in dollars. TikTok's developer documentation lists no fee for the Research API, the Display API, the Content Posting API or the Commercial Content API. The price is paid in access rules instead: the Research API is limited to non-commercial researchers at eligible institutions, the Display API returns only the authorizing user's own profile and videos, and posts from unaudited Content Posting clients stay private until TikTok audits the app.
How much does the TikTok Research API cost?
Nothing, if you qualify. Access is free for academic institutions in the US, EEA, UK, Canada and Switzerland, not-for-profit research organizations in the EU, and Brazilian institutions studying youth safety. Creators, advertisers and commercial users are not eligible. Approved projects get 1,000 requests a day, up to 100,000 records a day, at 100 records per request, with a separate allowance of up to 2 million follower records a day.
What does third-party TikTok data cost in 2026?
Published rates run from about $0.60 to $1.88 per 1,000 requests on pay-as-you-go APIs (Lamatok, TikHub, ScrapeCreators, SociaVault, SocialCrawl), $1.30 to $1.70 per 1,000 records or results on scraping platforms (Bright Data, Apify), and $100 to $1,400 a month on daily-quota subscriptions (EnsembleData). xpoz starts free with up to 75,000 results, then $20 a month for up to 1,000,000 results across TikTok and three other platforms.
Can a business use the TikTok Research API?
No. TikTok's Research API FAQ answers the question for creators, advertisers and commercial users with a flat no, and the eligibility page requires applicants to be independent of commercial interests and working on a not-for-profit, public-interest basis. A company that needs TikTok search, comment or profile data at scale uses a third-party data API or an indexed platform, priced per request, per record or per month.
